Youth activism in singapore, exploring possibilities
Because we don't care and it doesn't matter. Because this doesn't show on the report card. Or testimonial. Because what's there to talk about. Because issues are best left to the politicians and people who aren't satisfied to mind their own businesses. Because college admissions are not dependent on it. Because we are young we should get our priorities right, grades will make and break us. Because we have morphed into the sweet young things our government love, to be seen not heard (at least not in wildly opposing views anyway). Because the boyfriend doesn't like it. Because we shouldn't spend time doing things that don't contribute to career advancements or networking opportunities. Because parents say so, don't jeopardize your (future) Hdb applications or be the stupid, gungho one. Because we shouldn't waste our youth on irrelevant, useless things. Because oppression of views don't hurt when we don't have any of our own to begin with. Because young people should chase the Five Cs (or whatever the swanky new standard is), not dreams. Because banging your head on the wall will only lead to self-induced bloodshed. Because our world is limited to campus grounds, orchard road and a couple of cinemas. Because time can be better spent re-writing our resumes. Because conversations about fast cars we are going to buy in future and the pretty wife that comes along (attracted to a free chauffeur that provides occasional love) won't land you in trouble. They only make you part of the successful crowd.
