In great debt.

Did I mention I had been craving oysters for months? Thanks for making it possible and perhaps one day I will be able to afford a dozen without batting an eyelid. I met mr p for dinner tonight, and as usual he named one of those posh posh places I want to go but never have the chance to afford as a student. 70 storeys away from it all, eating freshly shucked oysters and deciding I still prefer lemon to tabasco, shallot vinaigrette and aioli salsa, I realized I'm one lucky girl to have great company in the form of an ex, possibly soon-to-be, colleague minus his occasionally callous/evil ways, heh. It's funny how we only went there for a casual dinner while around us were a man who got down to his knees and proposed to his girlfriend, and another male who impressed his girl by arranging a birthday surprise. Clues that point blatantly to, you better stop splurging on expensive dinners mr p. You need the money to realize your dreams! And next time, hopefully I have earned enough to say, my treat.

All set to fly away some day soon.

An adventure, one step closer, and adding to all the uncertainties at this stage of my life thus far.

If you realize for these coupla weeks, a picture seems to be representing a thousand words in this part of the blogosphere, it does substitute more than sufficiently the thousand words I had failed to write in view of late nights in the office trying to enlarge my shoestring budget and a certain press time deadline.

Life never gets this good in a temp job.

I find myself wanting to press an extra 9 before making phonecalls outside of work.

Self-service birthday celebration (sexy red top and cigarettes not included).

Posted by Hello

In yet another bid to up the glam factor of heartlander facilities (remember n.e.w.t.), we celebrated the berry's birthday in a cozy thomson road coffeeshop quite unlike the young spendthrifts at n.y.d.c. or one of those swanky coffee joints. We think our parents ought to be very proud of us. Look, we even da-baoed our own cake (slice) to save money. No candles and no teenage waiters in neatly-pressed uniforms, we have the free whiff of steaming dim sum and chicken rice instead. Oh and the endearing dim sum auntie who remarked that our birthday celebration seem a little too rushed as she settled our bill.

Always looking out for opportunities, anywhere and everywhere.

Bah for blogging but (hopefully) good for my june trip finances.

After all is said and done with, one load off actually leads to another couple more. The lack of entries is not entirely due to wild partying like semesters before or non-interest whatsoever. It just so happens that I'm seldom at my desk these days (even though I really ought to be) and with the new temp job till june I would be deskbound 9-to-6 with no computer/internet access. I'm anticipating evenings to be spent out somewhere or if I'm home, doing something else other than hogging the laptop for the sake of a report-rushing sister.

Fear in the mind is worse than anything.

Someone in the documentary had said. Someone outside of it gave a review here. Last week I had spent the first day post-exams cooped in a cinema for 4.5hrs digesting a history textbook of overly-tangled facts misunderstandings emotions stubbornness ills. I learnt that, jews are a religious categorization (absolutely sure) and that sometimes you really can't tell a jew, an arab, an israeli or a palestinian israeli apart. The bitter anger isn't worth it, baby. And that part about the judgment of solomon as a metaphor, pure beauty it is. While the real mother is the one who willingly gives up her child as the imposter demands a split, why is it such that the real mother isn't given back her child at all in reality? How long must her bloodied struggles last? Never mind that in these circumstances her child is land, is not alive, how many more of her other sons must be sacrificed before justice will prevail? If, at all.

On the morning of my last paper for my undergraduate studies, I ate the world's yummiest homecooked yam rice as I juggled last minute revisions.

Aww, lovely.

Q, a really nice beijing boy, had just helped me book my train tickets to UB, the actual first step closer to making the june trip become stark reality. I can't wait to meet up with him again; how not to fancy his kind at all when they display such trust (Rmb150 out of his own pockets in advance tells quite a bit). So glad that I'll be able to make it in time for this too, hurray.

Fashion police looks at youth in china.

Posted by Hello

Hip to be a communist notwithstanding, our usual impressions of chinese youth happen not to vary far from this. And it seems tough for them to get the look right apart from looking effortlessly studious and thrifty. Yet all is not lost for chinese youth. I'd noticed that chinese youth can in fact look very trendy if they try to attain the indie punk, especially fitting for people of small stature, like asians, like chinese who genetically speaking do not usually have alot of muscles or boobs and even if so, won't look good with muscles or boobs anyway. It is tough not to associate the indie punk with chain-smoking, hard drinking and a slob of a lifestyle a la trainspotting and the gig-going tough boys of the stylish alternative. But I think it ain't that bad a link, it's high time we need some bad boys (and girls) to make a statement and dispel the myths.

If you were to compile a soundtrack of your life.

Which songs would you put in it? Recently there's been a particular trailer on tv that uses coldplay's the scientist. Memories of that summer can't help but float back in bittersweet fragments every time I hear it.

Look who's cooking tonight.

Instant noodles, glamorized with haute couture prawns and plenty of refreshing summer greens. Posted by Hello

National education in practice and the girls, the prize.

T said, we are not chinese, we are singaporeans. I think the grand dames of our national education system ought to find this heartening. He doesn't mind girls from china, if they are cute. I replicated his phrase switching girls to boys. It warranted a "the taking of women from other tribes is a source of national pride, but losing our women to foreign soil is national humiliation" retort. We laughed at his nationalistic male egoism. It's national pride to the chinese boys I guess. One up for they who look good indie arty skinny. So foreign is foreign, white or yellow; it never matters otherwise to our local men.

Setting precedent for the next decades.

Mom and dad left for malaysia this morning, will be back on thursday afternoon. I've become an adult without entirely realizing it. A pleasant surprise will await grandma this afternoon.

It is time.

I trawled the web all day for quality beijing blogs not written by expats, but found none. I didn't realize I had a gem till now, so rare I'm going to make sure I take the trouble to check for new entries (and read every single line) daily. With the first paper on wednesday and less than favorable revision completed, I think I should start feeling panicky now.

Whimsical wants.

If the seller had priced it at $20, I might have bought it with less indecision. But you see, life is fraught with difficult choices and I decided I could do with one less owl this time. Posted by Hello

So crowded that.

My sister was at the pool yesterday when she was shouted at by a swimming coach. He insisted that she should be paying more attention to his lecturing and not be glancing elsewhere. Stared upon by his bunch of swim school teens, my sister swam away in disbelief and ignored him.

Not bad really.

Posted by Hello

Almost fit for Yongfook.com, only problem being its south korean origin. An inexpensive salty dried seaweed snack my sister bought the other day, flavored god-whelmingly, with what else but wasabi! I certainly could get used to the near-death choking experience at first bite. Beyond that, it resembles so much like the usual seaweed snack that you probably can't wait to crunch on a new piece sure to numb yourself senseless. A spanking new alternative to the wasabi-flavored green peas for those blocked-nose days.

Going ga-ga over.

Beside the girls, #6 (1996), ink and color on paper, 132 x 66 cm Posted by Hello

Take time to check him out here and here. I'm thrilled, like one of those 5566-frenzied teens except that there is only one star in my case, and a really talented one at that.

From BBC News:

But Tokyo says private companies, not the government, were responsible for the texts, and that it is up to individual school districts to decide which books they use.

A load of crap. I was chatting with Q in beijing over msn last night about the state of sino-japanese/sino-american affairs, rather enlightening as it usually is. A pity Q found out about the protests too late, otherwise he might have participated; and me too, if I were in beijing. Ah these reckless university youth, you must be saying. Student demonstrations never fail to be a good cause for governments to worry over.

Surprises and second hand finds.

I got a mango coinpurse for $3, a pacha cherry keyring for $3 and a messenger bag fit for my laptop for $12, what bargains!
